What is the best VR Headset?

Main Post:

My main plan is to buy a VR headset around a year from now when the occulus quest 4 comes out but I've been looking at games and some stuff have come to my attention. So theres a lot of factors on decidint which Headset is the best one to buy: The games that are supported, The graphics, The amount of playtime per full battery etc.

I just wanted to ask you guys what you would advise me to do? Since there are a lot of different headsets. I do plan on/have already bought games on Steam.

Oh btw if it helps there are the games that I will definitely play/plan on playing:
Half-Life: Alyx, TWD:S&S, Pavlov, Boneworks, Waltz of the Wizard, VR Giants, Bonelab, UNDERDOGS, Arizona Sunshine, Job Simulator, Rec Room, Thrill of The Fight, Blade and Sorcery, Into the Radius, DCS World Steam Edition.

Best VR headset (as of Dec 2024)?

Main Post:

Hi folks. Thinking of getting a VR headset (for PC), but no idea which. Thoughts?

Edit: I went with the Meta Quest 3 (512GB) [£470, local retailer], BOBOVR S3 Pro Head Strap [£110, Amazon] and a Maxonar 5 meter link cable [£25, Amazon].

Best VR Headset?

Main Post:

I have never experienced VR but have been interested in it from Day 1. Games like Resident Evil 7/Village VR, Half Life Alyx, and Batman Arkham Shadow have interested me over the years and I am finally thinking about potentially buying a headset.

The main reason I've been holding off from purchasing a headset is:

Huge Price/ Little Value -very little selection -lack of "triple a" vr game development -tech advancement (having to upgrade frequently)

The VR Headsets I'm aware of include: PSVR2, Valve Index, and Meta Quest 3. In your opinion, what is the best vr headset on the market in terms of vr experience, tech, and most importantly, game selection?

I'm aware of headset exclusivity on some games. Is there any headset that would allow me to play Arkham Shadow, Resident Evil 7/Village, Half Life Alyx, AND the majority of expected upcoming "triple a" vr titles?

Lastly, do you advise I wait and let the vr scene develop a bit more before emptying my pockets? The last thing I want to do is purchase a $500 headset that's outdated and not supported anymore within a year or two

Thanks!

Top Comment: There is no best headset. Every headset has pros and cons. Which is best will depend on what it's used for, and the user's preferences. For beginners who are interested in VR gaming generally, Quest 3 or the cheaper 3S are good choices, as they are the best jack of all trades headsets right now, with the most different ways of using them. You'll need a powerful gaming PC, but you can play RE7 and RE8 (along with 2R and 3R) via a VR mod. But no comfort features so you'll need to build up your VR legs first. HL Alyx can be run on a more modest gaming PC. Arkham Shadow is Quest 3 standalone exclusive. PSVR2 can play the official VR version of RE8 on PS5. But it can't play RE7 - only the PSVR1 can play that. (RE7 official is played with a gamepad, which makes it inferior to the PCVR modded version which has motion aiming.) If you want AAA games in VR, currently the closest we have are modding on PC. Cyberpunk VR mod, Resident Evil series VR mod, fully modded SkyrimVR and Fallout 4 VR, etc.

whats the best vr headset right now in 2024 as in immersion view graphics tracking ect that wont cost 20k

Main Post:

only headsets i know of is the occulus ones and the pcvr ones with steam

Top Comment: Right now, for most users, it's hard to avoid recommending Quest 3. For more specialised use cases, there's Pimax Crystal, Varjo XR4 and BigScreen Beyond, which are more expensive and are better in some ways (but worse in others.) There's high hopes for the upcoming Pimax Crystal Light.

I want the best VR gaming experience money can get today.

Main Post:

Never really tried VR before except one time I was trying out a friend's Quest 2 for an hour.

I only really played some basic demos, or mini-games.

I'm considering buying a VR headset, but I don't care much for demos. I want to play full fledged games. I saw there's Half Life: Alyx, and Half Life 2 Mod. I want to play serious RPG games as well. Etc.

What headset is best for that?

Also, I have a fucking beast of a PC and I'd rather leverage that, instead of using the onboard hardware of the headset for peasant graphics. I want to experience the greatest VR games, with the insane graphics fidelity we can achieve with today's graphic cards.

So what VR headset is considered the top dog? Also, if I want to track my finger movements precisely, are there special gloves that are needed? Is there any other peripheral VR gear that is considered a must-have for achieving the best experience?

Top Comment: For gaming, a Crystal has the highest resolution. Has some issues though which may or may not bother you depending on the headset lottery. I wouldn't buy one without a 4090 though. 100% scaling is 5100x4210 pixels per eye so you'll have to lower some game settings to get them to run.

Best vr headset as of now?

Main Post:

I do need some help, i would love to know, which Vr headsets are the best rn as of now?
With mean as of not being affordable, but the best experience for games that money can currently buy!

Top Comment: There is no best headset and it'd depend on what you want to do/what games you play. Although best over-all would probably be either the Quest Pro or the Valve Index, depending on who you ask. But if you only want to play Sim games then you might prefer something like a Reverb G2 or the Pimax Crystal

What's the best headset for VR gaming out right now

Main Post:

I thought about upgrading from my dated quest 2, I have no budget limitations

Top Comment: Depends on what ya want. If your budget legitimately isn't a factor, and you don't mind a wire, getting Valve Base Stations, Knuckles, then either a Pimax Crystal Light, Bigscreen Beyond, or Varjo XR4 with a top of the line gaming PC to power the resolution at top quality could be what you're looking for. If you just want a versatile, lightweight HMD, Quest 3, hands down. Battery headstrap, link to a powerful gaming PC wirelessly with a dedicated 6E router and you're set.
